Hurricane Sandy

The reason why our schools were closed and the end of the marking period was postponed was was because of Hurricane sandy. She first started off as a tropical wave in the mid Atlantic western cariabean on October 22, "Hurricane sandy" then weaken, shortly after it strengthened then six hours later was upgraded to a tropical storm. The storm moved slowly to the north the greater Antilles. Than on the 24th of October the storm  increasingly strengthen  into a hurricane. Hurricane sandy made a visit to the island of Jamaica. Then she started making her way northern and made a second landfall on Cuba. On the morning of October 25 the hurricane was identified as a category 2. On the late evening of the same day Sandy weakened back to category 1.  The next morning sandy started moving towards the Bahamas. Sandy than again weaken to a tropical storm later that same morning she moved up to being identified as a hurricane category 1. Sandy made her way to the coast of the u.s that evening than was a post-tropical cyclone. She mad her final land form on new jersey and Atlantic city on October 29th.

                                                    the hurricane category chart

At the end of the video Rico reads " The Lord's Prayer." Rico believes that he makes life on himself harder than it can be but he believes god gives him the strength to carry on and be strong . In the video he appears with what seams like a black eye and says he doesn't want to fight anymore. He believes that as people get older they get wiser and does not want to live as he lives now, he asks god for another chance or another day to live .

Media

I am constantly on the internet mostly on facebook, or watching movies online, Im mostly on you tube listening to music. Im on instagram a lot when im on the train or just bored at home. I  have to be really, really bored to go on tumblr its kind of addiction but after a while it gets boring. I actually read books very often. I can read a whole book a day if im really interested it in, I read in the train on my way to school or coming back home on the train after im done with my homework and right before I go to bed sometimes if im really tired and its been along day I just listen to music and go to sleep. Im signed in to facebook on my phone and computer, I was one it alot in the summer now that school started I barely pay any attention to it, it gets really boring somethings and I don't find it very useful I only on it to communicate with my family Dominican republic, Puerto rico or my friends that don't have phones.

Now people are using instagram for the wrong things. instagram was created for people to share their interesting creative photos, now its just like facebook expect without all the statuses. Like facebook, it first was only for people in colleges but now people all over the world is using it and from different age ranges. honestly i think its unsafe if people use it the wrong way, i have a facebook and i have some friends on there i don't know personality but we'll have plenty of mutual friends so ill accept it anyways that put things up such as exactly where they're at, what they're doing constantly posting things up and creeps can possibly locate them if they wanted to. Also it brings drama and people to bully behind the screen. Also it causes people to seek for attention more. I honestly think these social networks are ruining lives if you actually think about it not only because of what people post its just that people spend more time online communication with each other than actually hanging out in person and being social. In family get together all my cousins are on there phone instead of spending quality family time, i'd rather be at home texting them. then having to be  next to them and being completely ignored.

The Murder Of One Million Tutsi

In Rwanda, in 1994, Hutu militia committed a bloody genocide, murdering one million Tutsis. Many of the Tutsi women were spared, only to be held captive and repeatedly raped. Many became pregnant. Intended Consequences tells their stories. See the project at http://mediastorm.com/publication/intended-consequences

I recently watched a film on media storm called Intended Consequences. This video is tells the life of women that were abused in the attack in 1994 in the East African nation of Rwand.  Over one million of people were slaughtered and killed. 20,000 kids where born to the result of rape.

The film is an interview of 30 women that were rapped, some of the women had kids by the men that rapped them others were hiv(Human immunodeficiency virus) positive.  "they said they wanted virgins on this side and non virgins on the other side they ordered us to remove our clothes and they started raping us" Yvette one of the victims was describing her abuse. She got pregnant and wanted to commit suicide because how can she love the child of a man who raped her.  She was waiting for the day to give birth and then she would kill the child but then she seen how beautiful the child was and decided to keep it. Other women talk about witnessing they're family member's getting killed.

I  honestly think they're should be some kind of government there so it wont happen again. I understand that the woman didn't want to have the kids because it wasn't a child from the one they loved. It was even more sad since most of them were still in school and young. In my opinion the mothers shouldn't have tried to kill the child or anything because the child has no fault in that, the child is Innocent. This video is important for people all over the world to watch because the more people that hear the more help they can get and they can feel safe. I would be traumatized if i seen one of my family being slaughtered even if it was a long time ago 1994 things like that still happen today in Africa. This film uncovered the truth about how women have been abused. I would be traumatized if i ever seen one of my family members being abused or killed like they were.  The hurt and softness of the translators voice's made the film more sentimental. It amazed me to see how graphic these pictures were it most have been tragic to go through what they went through.
